There are many books written about Gurdjieff and his teaching. While Mr. Gurdjieff’s own writing has the most value for the multiple layers of teaching to be absorbed, books by other authors mentioned here are often given as an introduction.
Direct experience and verification are the essential ingredients to the living work of G.I. Gurdjieff. Work with a group can be supplemented, but not replaced, by reading.
